Eternal Gifts for the Ones We Love: Bible Gift Ideas
What’s better than eternal gifts for the ones we love? Nothing! See some Bible gift ideas that can make an eternal difference.
Eternal Gifts for the Ones We Love
Are you looking for a great gift idea for someone special? I can’t hardly think of a better idea than a Bible. Bibles make the best gifts. However, here in the Bible Belt, most people already have more than one Bible of their own, so let’s make it an extra special gift!
A Gifted Bible
Early in my Christian life, I was working at a Juvenile Probation and Detention Center. Many times I would go into the detention center area to either visit a kid or talk to the workers.
Two of the older women kind of spiritually adopted me. They shared God’s Word with me from a Bible that someone had left there. Since I was just starting to grow in my faith, I thought the Bible they shared was the most marvelous thing! Someone had written notes all through it.
I read it so much that when I quit working there, they gave me that Bible as a going away gift. I still have it!
An Early Bible
When I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade, I attended a small little private Christian school, run by an elderly couple. They strongly believed in teaching the Word, so the New Testament (King James Version) was our reader.
Yes, this is It! I especially remember learning to read and memorize the 23rd Psalm. What great memories!
A Special Bible Gift Idea
These are just a few of the Bibles we have at home. Just like us, many people have multiple Bibles, in multiple versions. In fact, the Bible is still the best seller! However, it is also not read as often as it is purchased.
So what could make a Bible even more special so that it would make your loved ones want to dig into it a little more? A personal touch!
Several years ago, I heard someone on the radio sharing what they were doing for their grandchildren when they graduated from high school. They were reading through a Bible and making notes for them in the margins, then they would present it to them at graduation. I loved the idea, so I bought Bibles for the girls.Â
Occasions to Give a Bible
A Bible can be given for many occasions, because it makes the perfect gift. In fact, you don’t even have to have a reason. Here are a few popular times Bibles are given as thoughtful gifts.
- Graduation Gift
- Birthday Gift
- Baptism Gift
- Christmas Gift
- Wedding Gift
- First Communion Gifts
- New Mothers on Mother’s Day
Practically any occasion can be the right time to give the gift of a Bible.
If you get started early, you can give them something with eternal value with a special touch! Just like the man on the radio, I have been working on special graduation gifts for my granddaughters since they were little. Two of them are finished, and I am working on the third one. I can’t think of anything better than eternal gifts for the ones we love.
If you are wondering, it takes approximately 2 years to finish one Bible. This of course is based on the time you can put into this eternal project and Bible study.
What You Will Need for These Eternal Gifts:
- Get a Bible that is an easy to read version but true to the original context. You don’t want it to be too difficult to understand, so they can apply it to their lives. However, you want it to be accurate.
- Fine tip pens work best for writing on the pages. The pens linked below are the ones I like to use, but any fine point will work.
- Bible highlighters (in different colors) are great if you like to highlight certain areas. There are highlighters made specifically for Bibles now, so they do not bleed through the pages.
- A Bible cover or nice tote bag will keep the Bible in better shape, since you will be carrying it around for a couple of years.
These items would also be great ideas to go along with the gift of the Bible. It is safe to say that not only will you use them as you make notes for your family member or friend, but they will probably use the same products.

Thoughts About the Process
- Each morning when I have my own personal Bible study, I use the Bible I am trying to complete. I also take the Bible to church or any Bible studies I attend, taking notes in it on every occasion.
- I pray each time I sit down to read God’s Word that He will show me what this specific grandchild will need to apply to their life, at the time when they will read it.
- I work on one Bible at a time (in order from the oldest grandchild to the youngest), and I complete it before starting another one.
- I choose one Old Testament and one New Testament book to finish before moving onto other books of the Bible.
- Each time I finish one of the books of the Bible, I put the date next to that book in the Table of Contents. This helps me keep up with which books of the Bible I still need to read.
What I Have Learned
- Because each girl has a different personality, the Lord gives me thoughts and lessons directed toward each one specifically in different ways.
- He even gives me thoughts about current things going on in their lives as well as thing they may go through later.
- He also speaks to me personally through the Words on the page.
- I have learned that all scripture has meaning and application for us, but some inspirational Bible verses may stand out to you more than others, depending on what you need at the time. He can speak to us through different scripture each time we read His Word.
Seeing how the Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Bible is such a sweet reminder that God’s Word is alive! He speaks to us in the hard times and the good times.
As I mentioned in the beginning, this gift is one with eternal value. If you are ever looking for reasons to read the Bible, read Psalm 119. This is the longest chapter in the Bible, so I will highlight a few reasons mentioned.
Verses in Psalm 119
- 1 – Those who live by His Word are happy.
- 9 – His Word will help you stay pure.
- 11 – It will keep you from sinning.
- 24 – It will guide you.
- 25 – It is encouraging and life-giving.
- 26 – It strengthens and carries you in times of grief.
- 49 – It gives you hope.
- 50 – It is comfort in your affliction.
- 66 – It teaches good judgment and discernment.
- 98 – It makes you wise.
- 99 – It gives you insight.
- 100 – It gives you understanding.
- 105 – It lights your path and keeps you from stumbling.
- 114 – It is your shelter and shield – your protection.
- 155 – It leads you to salvation.
- 165 – It brings abundant peace.
Who wouldn’t want these things for the ones they love most? These reasons alone are enough to turn anyone into a Bible lover.
