Special Birthdays

Just like everyone, our family loves celebrating birthdays, but we also celebrate our Christian birthdays, special birthdays.  When you think about this birthday of rebirth and salvation, it is definitely worth celebrating!

This week our family has been in Florida, and we had the privilege of celebrating two Christian birthdays while we have been here.  Our granddaughter, Chloe’s was June 29th, and our son, Jacob’s was July 1st.  Even though Jacob has passed from this earthly life, July 1st gives us peace that we will see him again one day.

This makes me think of the story of Joseph in Genesis.  His brothers had sold him into slavery, and his father Jacob thought he was dead.  After many years,  the brothers found out the truth and went to tell Jacob.

“They said, ‘Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt!’  Jacob was stunned, for he did not believe them.  But when they told Jacob all that Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph sent to transport him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived.”

Since we know the story, we know that Joseph was never really dead.  He had just gone ahead of them and was waiting for them to get there.  When I think about Jacob, it brings me peace to know that he is not dead either!  He has just gone ahead of us and is waiting for us to get there.  This would not be the case if it wasn’t for his special birthday on July 1st – what a reason to celebrate!
