It’s All in the Timing
How many times have you not gotten your way, only to find out later that it would have been a huge mistake? I think it has probably happened to us all at some point. In those moments, we may not understand, and we may even feel angry, heartbroken, or like things are unfair. It is then that we really need to trust the Lord.
I have come to realize (even when my emotions aren’t feeling it) that God has a reason for the No’s and delays in our lives. Just as we usually know what is best for our children, He is our Heavenly Father and always knows what is best for us.
There is a wonderful example of this in Deuteronomy. The Israelites were about to cross the Jordan and take possession of the Promised Land. They would have many obstacles and battles along the way, but they knew the Lord would be with them. At this point, I personally believe they were ready to move!
As they were making preparations, the Lord told them that it would take a little more time to fully take possession. They had already been wandering for 40 years – I just wonder how many of them (much like us) didn’t want to wait any longer. How many wanted it right then?
He didn’t have to, but the Lord graciously provided the reason to them through Moses:
“The Lord your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once; otherwise the wild animals will become too numerous for you.” Deut. 7:22
Wow! It was all about His protection for them, just like it is for us! The next time you are faced with a disappointment, trust that the Lord is working out a plan that is for your benefit. You may not get what you want, when you want it, but keep trusting Him to know what is best for you.
Speaking of Timing…
A few years ago, I kept trying to find the perfect planner, exactly like I wanted. I couldn’t find it, so I made my own and LOVE it! If you are in the same boat, I encourage you to make what you want. If you decide to make your own, I suggest getting started now. It can be a little time consuming, but it is also fun if you like this kind of thing.
I will share parts of mine, which are usually too detailed for a lot of people. If you see anything that you like, let me know, and I can send copies electronically. They can all be altered to fit your needs. I am also including a few links – it isn’t that they are hard to find, but these exact ones can be hard to find. It is all about preference.
I started with a leather-type 3 ring binder. I actually like this one better than the one I purchased, and the price is a little less than what I paid.
Each year, I make a new cover page (inside a page protector). I usually find a scripture for the year and a picture to go with it. My scripture for this year is:
“Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon; you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another; or maybe both.” Ecclesiastes 11:6
After the cover sheet, I have a vinyl pocket folder for any loose papers I need to keep, and then the monthly dividers. There are a variety of dividers available, but I like the plain white ones. The link below will take you to these, but you can see the colored ones as well.
Behind each month is:
- A Cover sheet for the month with a scripture and a coordinating picture/quote
- Mileage log
- Weekly appointment log/calendar
- Weekly To-Do List with a scripture or quote at the bottom of the page
- At the end of the month is a monthly to-do/project list.
The Mileage Log helps me keep track of any tax deductible mileage.
Most people don’t want their calendar in 15 minute intervals, but I really like it. This can be altered to fit your taste.
Weekly To Do Lists are in 3 columns – Business, Personal, & School.
Monthly To Do List (side 1) has the same headings, but I use this for more ongoing projects or things I want to remember to do at a later time.
Monthly To Do Lists (side 2) has a Grocery List, Gifts to Buy, and a Miscellaneous column. These can also be altered to fit your needs. I think I am going to make the “Gifts to Buy” a “Calls to Make” for next year.
I just ordered the most beautiful paper to print my planner on for next year. I thought I would get paper to match my website – Pink, and I may print in a dark gray. Those have always been my colors!
If you didn’t know before now, I guess it is obvious that I am a List Maker! Who else is with me on this? I hope there are others out there, or maybe I am just a little crazy. If you are a list maker, please share!
Have a Grace & Joy-filled Day!
