Kitchen Table Memories and A Chicken Pot Pie Recipe

Saturday Morning Devotional

Kitchen Table Memories

Have you ever thought all the conversations, laughs, decisions, and memories made at the kitchen table? I can remember being at my grandmother’s house for a meal – it didn’t matter if it was a large family gathering or just the two of us. When we were finished eating, we always stayed at the kitchen table to chat. Oh my, all of the kitchen table memories that were made at that table!

Kitchen Table Memories Song

I never thought much about the importance of the kitchen table until we took a group to Pre-teen camp several years ago. I bought a CD from the music leader (Eddie Walker), and one of his songs entitled, “Kitchen Table Memories” was on the CD. Here is a verse:

Kitchen table memories
Always mean the most to me.
Pushing back the dinner plates
To talk with friends and family.
Looking back on old times
And wondering what’s ahead
Come if you’re able
And sit around the table with me.

I can’t seem to find the CD right now, but I messaged Eddie Walker, and he sent me a digital link. I had to get the free app (SoundCloud) to listen to it, but it was well worth it! Here is a link to the song. I hope you love it as much as I do!

This song has always stuck in my mind, and it made me appreciate those kitchen table times. I try not to ever rush away. One of the pluses to the townhome we stayed in this summer at the beach was that the kitchen table was large enough for the whole family to sit around comfortably.

Kitchen Table at the Beach

I really wanted to share one of the beach house pictures of the family around the table, but “real life” was happening in every picture I took – LOL! No matter which picture I shared, someone would be coming after me for posting it. Anyway, it is those real life moments that make the memories.

Gather around the kitchen table and enjoy each moment!

Scriptures

Can you imagine making kitchen table memories with Christ in the flesh?

“When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.” Matt. 26:20

“When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to them.” Luke 24:30

“Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with Him.” John 12:2

Chicken Pot Pie

I never liked Chicken Pot Pie until I tried this recipe! It is completely different from what my idea was – a frozen meal in a pie tin. I found this recipe in one of our old church cookbooks many years ago – submitted by Mary Cameron. I tweaked it for our family, because we love extra crust. This is fresh and creamy with a fluffy crust. It is delicious!

My favorite kitchen table centerpiece is the one my daughter-in-law made. I posted it recently, but she embellished it a little for the season. I love it!
