What is So Great About Coffee?

I have no idea how I became so obsessed with coffee and coffee related items! Really, what is so great about coffee? It is the taste, smell, variety, the way it boosts your mood, and even the social aspect.

There are so many good things about coffee, and I love them all!

On the surface, you wouldn’t think that coffee was very versatile, but oh how it is! There are many ways to make coffee, and even more ways to enjoy it. Here are a few:

  • Hot
  • Cold (cold brew or over ice)
  • As a shake
  • Plain Black
  • With all sorts of things added in: cream, sugar, other sweeteners, spray whipped cream, protein, syrups and flavorings, etc.
  • Over ice cream
  • In baked goods
  • In candy
  • Whole beans that are covered in chocolate

The list goes on and on! Let’s look at some of the most common ways to enjoy coffee.

Morning Coffee – Hot

Who starts their day with coffee? I keep hearing about people starting off with 8 oz. of water before they ever make their coffee. I think there are some really good benefits to this routine, but I am not there yet. My morning routine consists of:

A collage shows a white mug with “Blessed & Pet Obsessed” being filled with coffee—answering what is so great about coffee—then topped with whipped cream. The text reads, “My Morning Coffee.”.
  • Starting the Keurig (We have a coffee pot that we use when we have company.) On certain occasions, when I am feeling nostalgic, I pull out the old-fashioned CorningWare percolator!
  • Adding a Kirkland’s Brand K-Cup and brewing (They are the strongest we have found that is still smooth.) The smell is amazing!
  • Adding a little powdered creamer – plain
  • Topping it with Great Value Extra Creamy Spray Whipped Cream (It is so much better than the name brands.)
  • Giving the dogs a little taste of the whipped cream – Not from my cup. They have their own can!
  • Sitting down to start my morning quiet time.

Favorite Daytime Coffee Drink – Cold

A few years ago, while I was on a low-carb diet, I found a drink that I absolutely loved! I highly recommend it if you need a boost of energy. On the other hand, if it is late in the afternoon and you want to sleep that night, I do NOT recommend it. If the circumstances are right, try a Nitro Cold Brew with Sweet Cream, and then ask for a little extra sweet cream. It will even give your mood a little boost as well.

A hand holds a Starbucks iced coffee with foam in a clear cup inside a kitchen with wooden cabinets, a white microwave, and a closed white door.

Because I cannot always make it to the coffee shop, and the expense would be huge if I did, I decided to try and make them on my own.

I have not purchased the Nitro Cold Brew Coffee Maker yet. There is so much experimenting to get it just right, that I am starting with a regular Cold Brew Coffee Maker . I am getting pretty close. The key is getting the right coffee, and I think the Guatemalan at Starbucks is the closest so far.

Cold Brew Process

It is very simple to make your own cold brew coffee at home. I purchased one of the Cold Brew Makers linked above for the ease of things. If you do not have one, there are other ways of making cold brew. These are the steps in the easy process:

  • Grind the beans with an electric grinder – or a hand grinder.
  • Add coffee to the filter.
  • Put the filter in the pitcher filled with water.
  • Let it soak in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours.
  • Shake the pitcher a few times each day.

Once the coffee is ready, pour it into a cup and add any extras you desire. If you usually add sugar, you may want to try it first. The cold brew process takes out some of the bitterness that a regular brew does not. You may not need as much sugar with the cold brew process.

Old-Fashioned Percolator

Some of my early childhood memories are of my mom making coffee in a percolator. I can still see where it sat on the countertop. I have great memories of this and can almost smell it!

A hand pours coffee from a white and blue patterned thermos into a small mug on a fringed tablecloth-covered table. A decorative glass and metal terrarium sits in the background, safely away from any unexpected skunk spray.

If you have ever thought about going back to an old-fashioned percolator (vintage or the new versions), see How to Make Coffee in a CorningWare Stovetop Percolator. It is such a fun process! It may bring back sweet memories while you make new ones.

A Favorite Coffee Dessert – Affogato

An affogato is a delicious Italian dessert, and it couldn’t be easier!

A hand pours espresso over a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass dessert bowl, creating an affogato—a perfect example of what is so great about coffee. A spoon and coffee beans rest on the wooden table in the foreground.

All you need for this amazing dessert is Vanilla Ice Cream and a shot or two of espresso. You can use any type or brand of these items you want, but the better the quality, the better the Affogato. My preference for an Affogato is Vanilla Bean ice cream. It seems to add something special to the dish. If you do not have an espresso machine, you can buy it already made or get it fresh at a coffee shop.

What is So Great About Coffee? Is it the taste or smell? Is it the variety or the way it improves your mood, or how about the dessert? I say it is all of the above! If you are a coffee drinker, let me know in the comments, then pour yourself a cup and enjoy!

Coffee Shop Obsessions

A cozy coffee shop with wooden walls, decorative plants, jars, and art invites you to discover what is so great about coffee. A black espresso machine sits on the counter, cups stacked on top. Coffee art decor and a clock hang above the shelves.

Coffee shops have become very popular and are a great place to enjoy coffee! I see it everyday as I drive by our local Starbucks. It may be because they are the only one within a few miles, but there is always a long drive-thru line. Many times it goes out onto the service road of the Interstate!

The private-owned coffee shops are also loved. They usually have such an intimate atmosphere, which is very important! If I happen to pass a new shop, I almost always have to go in to see it, even if I don’t order anything. It is all about the atmosphere!

My Own Coffee Shop

A cozy vintage coffee corner with a wooden cabinet, coffee maker, mugs, and a decorative “Coffee” sign highlights what is so great about coffee. Eiffel Tower artwork and potted plants enhance the rustic, farmhouse-inspired decor.

Remember my She Shed? Yes, it is my own personal French Style Prayer Room/Coffee Shop. Inside the cabinet is a variety of coffee makers, grinders, and other coffee accessories that have never been used, but they are there just in case. I guess the obsession has been going on for a while!
