Showers of Blessings
Saturday Morning Devotional
Showers of Blessings
The Lord constantly sends us showers of blessings, and many times we don’t even recognize them. He also uses us to pour down showers of blessings on others.
.
“I will make them and the area around My hill a blessing: I will send down showers in their season; they will be showers of blessing.”
Ezekiel 34:26

Blessings Through Stories
Hearing my grandmother (Grace) tell her life stories was one of my favorite things. I loved hearing them so much that I got her to write several stories down for me. We were trying to get all of them recorded in her voice, but we had a little mishap along the way.
.
We met one morning to record some of the stories she had written down for me. I gave her the hand-held tape recorder and away we went. Every time someone would call, she would pause it to talk to them, we would have our own conversation, and then we would get started again – until the next interruption. Hours later, when we were completely finished, we discovered that she accidentally paused the recording during the stories and recorded all of the conversations.
.
As disappointed as we both were, it really turned out to be one of those blessings the Lord showered down on me. Unfortunately, she passed away before we were able to get them recorded in her voice, but I had the written stories and hours of our conversations! Showers of Blessings!

Blessings Through Legacy
.
One of the things I could say about my grandmother was that she loved blessing others with showers! It didn’t matter if they were bridal showers or baby showers, she was involved. I cannot tell you how many times she called me about going to a shower, and I literally had no idea who the person was. She would explain that it was a certain person’s sister’s great-niece’s cousin, or something like that. I just usually went along with it, but I didn’t share her excitement.
.
One day as she was sharing one of her stories with me, I understood why she loved showers so much. She was a teenager/young adult during the Great Depression, and her parents struggled to provide for their family. They certainly didn’t have money for every bridal or baby shower that came along, so she didn’t get to attend.
.
“During this time, life was really hard for everybody. When some of the girls got married or someone would give a shower, I couldn’t go, for I had to go to the field or we didn’t have the money to get anything.” (Quote by Granny Grace)
.
She told me many times about her not getting to go to the showers. It was a really big deal for her. Once she got married and was able to afford things on her own, giving and attending showers for others was a top priority for her; she was blessed by them. I cannot imagine all of the people she blessed with a shower or by attending a shower throughout her lifetime. What a legacy of blessing!

This is an obvious song but such a good one, and you will never guess who is singing it – “Showers of Blessings” sung by Willie Nelson!

I love those stories about your granny! I’m glad that recording the conversations turned out to be a blessing, and I’m so happy you got the stories on paper, at least. So wonderful! I’m very into genealogy and stories of our family, too. Just joined DAR because of it. We called my dad’s stepmom “granny.”
I love those sorts of things also. I’ve never made time for my own genealogy studies, but my grandmother’s sister did. I have lots of her books and notes. It’s very interesting!
Such a great post Susan! I love that you recorded her voice and have her stories written down too. It’s a great reminder I need to do that with my parents as well. I love that she went to as many showers as she could and blessed people while she was alive. She sounds like such a special lady! Big hugs, CoCo
She was so amazing and blessed so many people! She was an inspiration! 😊
This>>”The Lord constantly sends us showers of blessings, and many times we don’t even recognize them. He also uses us to pour down showers of blessings on others.” Is so true indeed. So beautifully spoken Susan.
Thank you so much for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month.
Thank you! Have a blessed day!😊
Dear Susan,
Thank you for sharing such an inspiring blog post. It’s amazing to read about how the Lord sends showers of blessings in our lives, even when we don’t recognize them. I particularly enjoyed the story of your grandmother, Granny Grace, and how she loved blessing others with showers. It’s unfortunate that you were not able to record her stories in her voice, but it’s truly a blessing that you have her written stories and hours of conversations.
As someone from the Netherlands, we don’t have the tradition of bridal or baby showers like in the US, but reading about your grandmother’s love for them made me appreciate the importance of showering others with blessings, whether it’s through physical gifts or emotional support.
Thank you for reminding us of the blessings in our lives and how we can be a blessing to others.
Best regards,
Aritha
