How to Make the Creamiest Red, White, and Blue Berry Trifle
A few weeks ago, I found a beautiful trifle bowl and planned to make a red, white, and blue berry trifle for summer holidays. This past week was my first attempt, and it couldn’t have been any tastier!
The whole family loved this creamy, delicious dessert. See how to make the creamiest red, white, and blue berry trifle below.
Red, White, and Blue Berry Trifle Inspiration
It all started with a great bargain! I found this amazing trifle bowl a few weeks ago for a whooping $2.99! I immediately started thinking about all of the options I could make in this gorgeous glass bowl.
Since there are several patriotic holidays in the summer, beginning with Memorial Day, I decided on a red, white, and blue berry trifle. It was the right decision – It was creamy, delicious, and very refreshing!
Red, White, and Blue Berry Trifle
Ingredients
There are obviously lots of variations to this recipe. Use your favorite ingredients, and add the amounts you desire. If you notice, I did not have sugar in the picture of the ingredients. This was literally a “Make it Up as You Go” recipe, and it needed sugar.
This is a very easy dessert to make. The most time consuming part of the whole thing was cutting up the fresh strawberries. If I would have thought about it, I would have used my strawberry slicer – I will next time.
If you used already sliced frozen berries, it could save you some time. They might not taste as fresh though.
Instructions
- Make the pudding, according to the package directions, but use 1 1/2 cups of milk instead of 2 cups. Set it in the refrigerator to chill.
- In a large bowl, mix the cream cheese and about 2 T. of sugar until smooth and creamy with an electric mixer on medium speed. Fold in the whipped cream by hand until blended. Chill in the refrigerator.
- Wash all of the berries. If you are using strawberries, cut into small pieces and put in a medium bowl. Add the remaining sugar to the berries, stir, and let set.
- Cut the pound cake into small chunks.
- Fold the pudding into the cream cheese mixture until blended well.
- In the bottom of the trifle dish, add a layer of cake.
- Top with the creamy pudding mixture and then a layer of blueberries.
- Add another cake layer, followed by the pudding, and a layer of strawberries.
- Add more of the pudding mixture, and then add more blueberries to the top of the trifle.
- You can add as many layers as you have room, and in any order.
The Assembly Line
The only drawback to this trifle dish is that it is a little small. I will make this red, white, and blue berry trifle again for July 4th, but I will use a larger trifle dish.
Just a thought – If you were serving a large crowd, you could double the recipe and serve it in a punch bowl.
Other Variations
- Use other types of fresh berries or fresh fruit in patriotic colors.
- Fresh raspberries
- Cherries
- Blackberries
- Mulberries
- Cakes to Use
- Angel Food Cake
- Frozen Pound Cake
- Store-bought Pound Cake
- Homemade Pound Cake (If you use this recipe, cut off the top layer of crust. It is too delicious by itself to have things added to it.)
- Use mason jars and let everyone make their own individual trifles.
