Life Applications and Lessons from 2 Samuel (Chapters 13-21)
Saturday Morning Life Applications (Vol. 93)
Let’s continue reading chapters 13-21 in the book of 2 Samuel. I know the Lord will speak and give us life applications and lessons from 2 Samuel to apply to our lives.

Let’s see what He shares with us from these chapters.
Life Applications and Lessons
2 Samuel 13:37-39
“Now Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. Absalom had fled and gone to Geshur, where he stayed three years. Then King David longed to go to Absalom, for David had finished grieving over Amnon’s death.” 2 Samuel 13:37-39
- It wasn’t that he was “finished” grieving over the loss of his son, but he had learned how to deal with it.
- Grief may go on for a lifetime, depending on the relationship. The stronger the love, the deeper the grief!
- David was in a hard situation. He loved all of his kids, regardless of what they had done.
- Tamar was innocent but had been raped by Amnon.
- Amnon raped Tamar.
- Absalom murdered Amnon.
- These wrongs were against each other, which made it even more difficult for David. However, David still loved them all.
- When your kids do something wrong, you don’t stop loving them, even if the action is extreme.
- In the back of my mind, I always wonder what would have happened if David would have taken action as soon as he found out about Amnon raping Tamar instead of ignoring the situation.
2 Samuel 14:14
“We will certainly die and be like water poured out on the ground, which can’t be recovered. But God would not take away a life; He would devise plans so that the one banished from Him does not remain banished.”
2 Samuel 14:14
- This sounds like the plan of salvation!
- We were banished because of our sin, and the Lord devised a plan to bring us out of banishment and back into fellowship with Him!

2 Samuel 17:2-4
“‘I will attack him while he is weak and weary, throw him into a panic, and all the people with him will scatter. I will strike down only the king and bring all the people back to you. When everyone returns except the man you’re seeking, all the people will be at peace.’ This proposal seemed good to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.” 2 Samuel 17:2-4
- Absalom’s pursuit of power made him not only disregard human life, but he was willing to kill his own father.
- I don’t think any of us would be willing to kill someone for power or success. However, we might unintentionally disregard people in our pursuit of success.
- Always remember that people are the most important part of life.

2 Samuel 21:15-22
“These four were descended from the giant in Gath and were killed by David and his soldiers.” 2 Samuel 21:22
- Verse 15 – “The Philistines again waged war against Israel…”
- Verse 18 – “After this, there was another battle with the Philistines at Gob…”
- Verse 19 – “Once again there was a battle with the Philistines at Gob…”
- Verse 20 – “At Gath there was still another battle…”
Each of these battles involved a Philistine giant and his army. The giants did not give up trying to conquer David and his army, but they never won.
- As you are working and trying to stay on track, don’t be surprised if a few giants rear their ugly heads.
- The giants cannot defeat the Lord’s army. Stay with Him.

On the other side of things – Lessons from the giants
- In setting goals and reaching them, keep striving toward them and stay determined, even when it is difficult and you feel discouraged.
- There may come a time when you need to re-evaluate and make sure you are on track with what the Lord wants. If it is costing you more than you could possibly gain, reconsider.
This song may be a good reminder – The Gambler by Kenny Rogers
It seems like the giants should have folded them and run! 😂
