Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of 2 Samuel (Vol. 94 )
These life applications and lessons from the book of 2 Samuel will end our time in this book of the Bible. The Lord has had a lot to say to us through these 2 Samuel.
This week’s lessons are a little shorter than normal, but I wanted to keep it all in 2 Samuel. I hope you will join me next week as we start reading the book of Galatians.
Life Applications and Lessons
“I have been blameless before Him
and have kept myself from sin.”
2 Samuel 22:24
- Of course David had sinned; he even sinned publicly. However, he could say that he was blameless because his sins had been forgiven!
- When we confess our sins, they are gone – We are justified!
“The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!
He is the God who avenges me,
Who puts the nations under me,
Who sets me free from my enemies.
You exalted me above my foes;
from a violent man you rescued me.”
2 Samuel 22:47-49
- David had truly lived through these experiences. This was his testimony, and he was especially glad to praise the Lord because of all He had done. He was sincere!
- We may not have been through the same extreme situations that David had been through, but when we reflect back over our lives, we can see the Lord’s hand in it all. Even in the heart-breaking times of our lives, we can see how the Lord carries us!
- Look back at all the Lord has done for you and continues to do, and praise His Name!
“The God of Israel spoke,
the Rock of Israel said to me:
‘When one rules over people in justice,
when he rules in the fear of God,
he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings grass from the earth.’”
2 Samuel 23:3-4
- This is exactly how leaders should lead:
- With justice
- In the fear of the Lord
- Look for leaders like this.
- Be a leader like this! We always think of political leaders in these types of verses, but there are all types of leadership positions where we can lead with justice and in the fear of the Lord.
- In the Church
- Workplace leaders are not just the employers, sometimes they are the employees.
- Family leaders
- Friendships
- And, yes… political
“But the king replied to Araunah, ‘No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.’ So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.”
2 Samuel 24:24
- Although Araunah’s heart was in the right place, if David would have taken the land for free, it would have been Araunah’s sacrifice, not David’s.
- If it doesn’t cost you anything, it isn’t really a “sacrifice.”
- Sometimes our sacrifice may be giving our time.
- Even a loving attitude can be a sacrifice at times.

You always give the most amazing reminders, Susan. I know I tell you this every week but I love this series so much. My Mom and I were talking about the political climate just the other day and It made me realize how sometimes we hold our leaders and pastors to a standard that we don’t even hold ourselves to sometimes. I’m definitely going to keep this front and center especially as we get closer to election season. Hugs, CoCo
