My Top 11 Christian Songs of Encouragement with Soul

I love music, especially music with a little soul and a positive message. Here are my top 11 Christian songs of encouragement with soul that fit this description. Enjoy!

Music has a way of lifting us up when we are down – in hard times, difficult times, and in our darkest days. Some of my favorite Christian songs have been a great source of comfort during the darkest moments in my life!

Music can also usher us right into God’s Presence as we sing worship songs to Him. Our songs to Him can be prayer, praise, worship, and thanksgiving.

“I will praise God’s name with song and exalt Him with thanksgiving.”
Psalm 69:30

“Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout triumphantly to Him in song.”
Psalm 95:2

I tend to lean toward music that is more calming instead of a more upbeat song, but then again, some of my favorite lyrics happen to be in upbeat songs. Have you ever heard the all time favorite hymns like “Amazing Grace” or “How Great Thou Art”  sung with a soulful voice? Listen to Elvis’ Gospel music. He has some powerful versions of some of the best Gospel songs!

I love all styles of Christian music as well:

  • Worship Songs
  • Old Gospel Songs
  • Gospel Hymns
  • Contemporary Music
  • Country Christian

Top 11 Christian Songs of Encouragement with Soul

These 11 inspirational Christian songs are some of my favorites. They are in no particular order – I don’t think I could rate them if I tried. Each one is a great song that shows us God’s love, and each has a little soul to it.

I would love to share all of the lyrics, but because of copyright laws, I cannot. I have chosen to share a short lyric that stands out to me for each of these songs. However, I chose links to videos with the lyrics included. I hope you see and hear the beauty in each powerful song.

As you click the link to listen to the song, a short ad will pop up (unless you have a paid account with YouTube). Just wait about 5 seconds and click the “Skip” button that will show up on the video screen. The song will start playing at that point.

An image with a quote from Psalm 28:7: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore, my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song." The background features musical notes, vinyl records, and piano keys—perfect for those who love Christian songs. Website: www.homewithgraceandjoy.com.

#1 Song

“Bring That Giant Down” by 11th Hour

Talk about a powerful song with a lot of soul! This one will make you move a little. This is a great song to go along with “Life Applications and Lessons from the Story of David and Goliath.”

Song Lyrics

Toughest battles and its something I know
But we all have a David down in our souls
So come on weary don’t run and hide
Just tell them don’t even say

Oh come on David the time is now
Oh come on David bring that giant down

#2 Song

I love singing these old Gospel songs in church. Both of these are straight out of a hymnal, but David Crowder’s version has a little more soul.

“I Saw the Light/I’ll Fly Away” by David Crowder

Song Lyrics

“I Saw the Light”
Just like a blind man, I wandered along
Worries and fears I claimed for my own
Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light.

“I’ll Fly Away”
Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a land where joy shall never end
I’ll fly away.

#3 Song

Although this is a newer song, you have probably heard it. Anytime I am in the car and it comes on, I cannot change the station. This is such a good song with a powerful message!

“Lookin’ for You” by Zach Williams with Dolly Parton

Song Lyrics

All the times that I worked
Hard because I believed
That life could have meanin’
Through things I’ve achieved
You knew I was lookin’ for You

#4 Song

There is a powerful back story to this song. Lauren Daigle and Ellie Holcomb wrote this beautiful song for a child with a terminal illness. Not only was the child blessed, but Lauren and Ellie were blessed too – I hope you are blessed as well.

“Be Okay” by Lauren Daigle

Song Lyrics

Lift your eyes to the hills
Remember where your help comes from
Lift your eyes to the hills
You’ll never face a valley alone
‘Cause even when your heart is breakin’
And you’ve gone and lost your way
You’re, you’re gonna be okay

#5 Song

I downloaded this song many years ago, and I still listen to it on occasion. It is all about drawing closer to the Lord.

“Closer” by Lara Landon

Song Lyrics

I′ve been stumbling through the dark
feeling my way around
tryin′ to be that light
that I’ve heard so much about
though I see just dimly
Your light is always leading
I′ll follow all the way home

#6 Song

I probably could have done all 11 songs by Zach Williams. He has some amazing inspirational Christian songs, and he definitely has a soulful voice! If you look him up, be ready to download some of his music.

“Face to Face” by Zach Williams

Song Lyrics

When we all see Jesus
Oh, when we all (all-all) see Jesus
No more sickness (ooh), no more madness, no more pain
When we all (when we all) see Jesus face to face

#7 Song

David Crowder is another person who just has a soulful style. This song about God’s love for us is so encouraging.

“God Really Loves Us” by Crowder with Dante Bowe

Song Lyrics

His mercy’s enough
His grace is sufficient
So come if you’re needing
Forgiveness or healing
His mercy’s enough

#8 Song

Oh my goodness – this song! I can remember the first time I heard this song. Jay had gone into a store, and I sat in the car. I kept hitting the repeat button on this one until I finally downloaded it!

“Please” by Katy Nichole

Song Lyrics

God, I’ve fallen in too deep
It’s nothing you can’t see
I know this desperate soul needs saving
Lord, have mercy on me
Come find me in my need
I’m just a wound away from breaking

#9 Song

I don’t know what it is about this song that makes me love it so much! It may just be that it is about our personal struggle in life and growing weary. There is an antidote for that – “We were never meant to walk that road alone!” (lyrics)

“…but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

“Weary Traveler” by Jordan St. Cyr

Song Lyrics

And no more searchin’
Heaven’s healing’s gonna find where all the hurt is
When Jesus calls, we’ll lay down all our heavy burdens
Carry on, oh

#10 Song

I could have added all of Elvis’ Gospel songs, but this one is one of my favorites. As a child growing up, Saturdays were house cleaning days. This album (on a record player) was what helped me get my room clean each week.

A vinyl record cover featuring an image of a person singing passionately into a microphone. The text reads "ELVIS" in bold red letters above the image, with "A LEGENDARY PERFORMER OF CHRISTIAN SONGS" written in smaller text below. The background has a textured white design.

This was not one of his Gospel albums, but it had the song, “Peace in the Valley” on it. I must have listened to it a million times!

“Peace in the Valley” by Elvis Presley

Song Lyrics

Well the bear will be gentle and
the wolves will be tame
And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes
And the beasts from the wild
Shall be lit by a child
And I’ll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes

#11 Song

I was only planning on sharing 10 songs. However, I was looking through the pictures on my phone and came across this.

This image shows a car dashboard displaying the radio station 90.9 KCBI playing the Christian song "Speak to the Mountains" by Chris McClarney. The current temperature is 89°F, and the time is 4:36. The dashboard features a variety of buttons and controls.

Does anyone else do this, or is it just me? Anytime I am in the car and hear a song that is either new to me or that I want to remember, I take a picture.

I just recently deleted them, but I missed this one. This was the only time I had heard the song, so I pulled it up on YouTube. It is a beautiful song that is definitely worth sharing! I am glad I took a picture.

“Speak to the Mountains” by Chris McClarney

Song Lyrics

Why would I worry
When giants come calling my name?
My God is so much bigger than troubles I face
Why would I hunger
For power or riches or fame?
Oh, ’cause my God is so much better than all of these things

  3. Christian music has been an important part of my life since childhood, growing up in a home with musically talented parents. I’ll be checking out these songs, Susan! Btw–how “coincidental” you should mention “How Great Thou Art.” I researched the backstory of that hymn just last week and was astounded how God involved numerous people over decades of time to bring us the blessing of this song. The story became last week’s blog post: https://nancyaruegg.com/2024/07/25/through-time-and-space/ . Perhaps you’ll find it astounding also!
