Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Galatians – Part 2

(Vol. 96)

I love the way the Lord is speaking to us through His Word in Galatians. Let’s take a look at some of the life applications and lessons from the book of Galatians this week.

An open Bible on a table displays a page from the Book of Galatians. Nearby, two white candles in gold holders and some green foliage rest on a cream-colored cloth. Text at the top reads, "Life Applications & Lessons," showcasing insights straight "From the Book of Galatians.

Galatians is a relatively short book of the Bible. As we read and study the scriptures this week, we will finish Galatians. There are many good lessons in this book!

Life Applications and Lessons

“I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. Galatians 5:16-17

  • Listen to and follow the Spirit’s leading.
  • The Spirit’s desires and our fleshly desires go in opposite directions.
  • We have free will to make the choice.
  • Let the Spirit lead you. You will know It is the Spirit, because It will most likely be the opposite of your fleshly desires.
  • It is all driven by desire: You can desire to please yourself or the Lord.
  • The Spirit desires to please God, even at the expense of pleasing the person.
  • It is like we have a civil war going on inside of us.
A person stands at a fork in the road with two path options labeled "Spirit" on the left and "Flesh" on the right. The text above reads "We Have a Choice!" “Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so you also won’t be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

  • Restoring people to living by the Spirit is the right thing to do. Be careful though. It comes with warnings.
    • Do it gently! Most people will not even listen to you if you come at them with a harsh or haughty tone in your voice.
    • Watch out for yourself.
  • There are several ways to fall when correcting others.
    • If you had the same weakness at one time, it might be easy to fall back into the same temptation.
    • Being judgmental toward them, even privately within your own heart
    • Gossiping and telling others about them
    • Being proud and/or conceited that you aren’t living like them
Text on a light pink watercolor background reads, "So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall." I Corinthians 10:12. The website "www.homewithgraceandjoy.com" is at the bottom. This verse offers valuable life applications for mindfulness and humility in our daily walk.

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
Galatians 6:7

This is very obvious:

  • Sow lettuce – Reap lettuce
  • Sow tomatoes – Reap tomatoes
  • Sow corn – Reap corn

These are NOT so obvious:

  • Sow hatred – Reap hatred
  • Sow frustration – Reap frustration
  • Sow drama – Reap drama
  • Sow anger – Reap anger

So many times at school, I would see the same students for the same problems, only with different people. They were the common denominator, but they could not see that. They were sowing drama or hatefulness, so that is what they reaped.

On a positive note, you can also sow and reap these:

  • Sow love – Reap love
  • Sow peace – Reap peace
  • Sow calmness – Reap calmness
  • Sow grace – Reap grace
  • Sow joy – Reap joy

We could go on and on. Let’s take notice of what we are sowing/planting in our lives and make sure they are on the positive side!

“So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9

  • Corn takes weeks/months to harvest from the time it is planted. Farmers know this and don’t get frustrated or give up on it. Instead, they water and nurture it until the time of the harvest.
  • Many times we find ourselves in a situation with someone where we are sowing peace or love toward them but not getting the same thing in return. Keep in mind that we may not see immediate results. It is easy to get frustrated and give up on them.
    • The seeds have to have time to grow and process.
    • Be patient and don’t give up. Keep watering and nurturing the seed – the harvest will come in time!
