Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Philippians Chapter One
(Vol. 100)
I love starting a new book of the Bible! Join me as we seek life applications and lessons from the book of Philippians, Chapter One.

In the She Reads Truth Bible, each new book starts with a summary and an explanation. There is also a picture with part of a verse that pretty much sums up the main idea of the book. How powerful is this one? “To live is Christ and to die is gain.”
That let’s us know that this is going to be a great book to read for insight. Let’s get right on it and see what life applications and lessons the Lord has for us this week.
Life Applications and Lessons
Philippians 1:3-5
“I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” Philippians 1:3-5
- Mission work and spreading the Gospel is a partnership.
- Not all are called to go to a foreign land. Some are called to stay and support the ones who go through prayer and giving.
- We are all called to missions and spreading the Gospel whether at home or afar.
Philippians 1:12-14
“Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually advanced the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is because I am in Christ. Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word fearlessly.” Philippians 1:12-14
The Lord uses what seems like bad situations to us to bring about good. No experiences are wasted!
I love the words of this song! Listen carefully to “Nothing is Wasted” by Jason Gray.
Paul’s Imprisonment:
- Was a testimony to lost people.
- Encouraged believers.
- Empowered believers.
- Gave boldness to others to spread the Gospel.

Sometimes we go through things that we just do not understand. On this side of Heaven, we may never understand or see the good. However, by faith we can know that He will use all things for good and for His glory! One day (in Heaven) we will understand.
Philippians 1:21-25
“For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don’t know which one I should choose. I am torn between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ—which is far better— but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. Since I am persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,”
Philippians 1:21-25
- Paul was Heavenly-Minded.
- He was looking forward to being with the Lord.
- He knew that if he was left on the earth, he would have a larger impact on the salvation of the lost as well as the spiritual growth of the Church.
- Sometimes being Heavenly-Minded requires us to think about the salvation of others.

Life Applications and Lessons Resources
If you have joined me recently, these daily life applications from the Bible are examples of some of the comments I am writing in the Bibles I am giving to my grandchildren when they graduate from high school. Click here to see the post where I explain this eternal gift idea. I want to give them all the resources I can to use in today’s world!
The rose colored Bible is the one I am using for my youngest granddaughter, and I really love it! If you don’t have a Bible with tabs, these are great. My oldest granddaughters have these as well as the Bible pens and highlighters.

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
Philippians 1:5

So excited to go through Philippians with you, Susan. It’s filled with so many nuggets of wisdsom for when you’re going through a hard time. I love that nothing is wasted too because sometimes it’s really hard to understand why something is even allowed to happen that seems completely unfair or senseless. Hugs, CoCo
Amen to that! I know that one day it will all make sense. My husband always says that when we get to Heaven and see why we had the hard times, we will praise Him for them.
Hallelujah that “the Lord uses what seems like bad situations to us to bring about good. No experiences are wasted!” Such comfort in those statements, Susan. Thank you!
Isn’t that amazing? I love how He works!
