Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Philippians Chapters 2-3
(Vol. 101)
Join me as we continue to seek life applications and lessons from the book of Philippians, chapters 2-3.
Last week we saw how the Lord uses all of our experiences. I love that nothing is wasted. We also looked at being Heavenly-minded.
Let’s see what life applications and lessons the Lord has for us in the next two chapters of Philippians.
Life Applications and Lessons
Philippians 2:3
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
Always keep in mind that regardless of who you run into in life or their status in life, they are a creation of God. Treat them as His special property. Put them above yourself.
Philippians 2:5-6
“Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, Who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited.” Philippians 2:5-6
- Jesus is fully God, yet He humbled Himself to be fully man!
- He didn’t let His God Status make Him proud.
- He didn’t go around bragging about how much better He was than man. He loved us too much for that.
- He didn’t talk about His status or lord it over people.
- We should have His same attitude!
- We should not brag or even think we are better than anyone.
- Human/earthly statuses vary in many different ways. Whatever our status in society may or may not be, we are are not to look down on anyone regardless of status. Statuses are dictated by society, not God.
- If we compare ourselves to Christ instead of other people, we will be humbled and know that there is no reason to be arrogant or proud. He is our example!
Philippians 2:14-15
“Do everything without grumbling and arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world,”
Philippians 2:14-15
- If we go around grumbling and arguing, we look just like the rest of the world.
- When we don’t grumble and argue, we are different and stand out to the world like bright shining stars.
Philippians 3:10
“My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,”
Philippians 3:10
Paul was looking forward to experiencing the power of Christ’s resurrection when he himself would also be resurrected to life.
Our goal should be the same:
- To KNOW Him (Christ)
- To know the power of His resurrection
- To know the fellowship of His sufferings (This is a hard one.)
- To be conformed to His death – We can also have His resurrection life! (Think of the picture of baptism.)
Philippians 3:13
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead,”
Philippians 3:13
- Don’t dwell on the past; it can do one of two things to stop you from achieving your goals:
- Thinking about your past failures can make you think you are not good enough or able to accomplish your goals.
- Thinking about your past successes can give you a sense of pride or make you live in the past – always talking about what you did, but not reaching out for more.
- Let your former failures and successes encourage you to set new goals and accomplish them.
- We will never be perfect or reach the full prize until Heaven. Keep setting goals, striving, reaching them, and resetting! It is an ongoing process!

Life Applications and Lessons Resources
If you have joined me recently, these daily life applications from the Bible are examples of some of the comments I am writing in the Bibles I am giving to my grandchildren when they graduate from high school. Click here to see the post where I explain this eternal gift idea. I want to give them all the resources I can to use in today’s world!
The rose colored Bible is the one I am using for my youngest granddaughter, and I really love it! If you don’t have a Bible with tabs, these are great. My oldest granddaughters have these as well as the Bible pens and highlighters.

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
Philippians 1:5
(New Testament)
Every week, you speak life into me, lady! I’ve really been struggling with a client lately because my heart is in “let’s do what is best” mode when she is ok with “good.” It pains me in some ways because I know if she let go even a little bit a whole new world could open up for her but I realize now she’s simply not ready yet. Thank you for the gentle reminder that we give our gifts for His glory and not our own. Big hugs, CoCo
I know that client is in great hands! You sound like a very compassionate counselor who is led by the Lord. That is a recipe for greatness!
