Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus: Part 3

Saturday Morning Life Applications (Vol. 105)

Let’s continue looking for life applications and lessons from the book of Leviticus. His Word continues to amaze me!

An open Bible rests on a wooden table, revealing the book of Leviticus. Decorative text proclaims, "I have set you apart from the nations to be mine." A text overlay highlights "Life Applications & Lessons in Leviticus," with a website link positioned on the side.

As we see these life applications, let’s determine to apply them to our lives as best as we can.

An Overview of the Book of Leviticus

If you are just joining us and are not familiar with the book of Leviticus, I highly encourage you to refer back to the first post on Leviticus as a reference. Read Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus – Part 1 to get a little background. Moving forward, Leviticus will make a little more sense.

Life Applications and Lessons

  • They were being consecrated for ministry.
  • This was a very serious and reverent time.
  • The pieces of clothing the Lord gave them had specific purposes.
  • We need to be consecrated daily as well:
    • Be cleansed – start with confession.
    • Put on the full armor of God daily.
A collection of medieval armor and a wooden shield is displayed on the left. On the right, text lists the "Armor of God" from Ephesians 6:13-17, with references to Leviticus for spiritual laws like the Belt of Truth and Helmet of Salvation. Website link at the bottom.

  • In verses 1-4 of Leviticus chapter 9, Moses told them exactly what they need to do before the Lord appeared before them.
  • All of the offerings and sacrifices were getting them ready (cleansed) to be in His Presence.

“Moses said, ‘This is what the Lord commanded you to do, that the glory of the Lord may appear to you.’” Leviticus 9:6

This is a “Do this – So that” statement. Imagine having the glory of the Lord appear to you personally. We can actually experience the glory of the Lord if we are prepared and not so preoccupied with earthly things.

  • This was the cleansing atonement so that they would be prepared to experience the Lord.
  • Jesus was our cleansing atonement so that we can experience the Lord. We just have to accept Him and His cleansing.
  • I am very thankful that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us. We still need to examine ourselves each day and confess sins that might restrict us from having a more intimate relationship with Him.
Text over a serene beach background reads: “‘You will never wash my feet,’ Peter said.” “Jesus replied, ‘If I don’t wash you, you have no part with Me.’” A moment reminiscent of the teachings in Leviticus. “John 13:8-10” followed by a website link.

  • They had made the needed preparations to be able to experience the Lord, at least as much as it is humanly possible.
  • Their reaction to His Presence was to shout and fall facedown.
  • Our reaction to His Presence should also be a reverent one. We should honor and praise Him here on earth as we will one day in Heaven.
A text image presents a biblical quote from Philippians 2:9-11 on a soft gradient background, celebrating Jesus' exaltation and lordship. The reverence echoes themes found in Leviticus. Discover more at "homewithgraceandjoy.com" mentioned at the bottom.

“Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his own firepan, put fire in it, placed incense on it, and presented unauthorized fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them to do. Then fire came from the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Moses said to Aaron, ‘This is what the Lord has spoken:

I will demonstrate My holiness
to those who are near Me,
and I will reveal My glory
before all the people.’

And Aaron remained silent.”
Leviticus 10:1-3

  • Two of Aaron’s sons were killed right there in front of him. From my counselor’s background and knowing the stages of grief, I can only imagine the wide range of emotions Aaron may have had:
    • Sadness and Grief for losing his sons.
    • Anger – This may have been misdirected at the Lord, or it could have been at his sons for not following the commands.
    • Guilt – He may have thought that he must have done something wrong for his kids to have done this.
    • Reverence and Fear – He saw the seriousness of following the Lord’s commands and teaching those commands to others. He may have also realized the importance of his purpose and ministry.
  • We should have a true reverence for the work we do for the Lord and do our best to follow His commands.
