Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus: Part 4
Saturday Morning Life Applications (Vol. 106)
Leviticus continues to give us some pretty great life applications and lessons. Let’s take a look!

Let’s apply them to our lives and use what the Lord shares with us.

An Overview of the Book of Leviticus
Leviticus can sometimes be a little difficult to read. If you are just joining us and are not familiar with the book of Leviticus, I encourage you to refer back to the first post on Leviticus as a reference. Read Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus – Part 1 to get a little background. With a little background, Leviticus will make a little more sense.
Life Applications and Lessons
“All the creatures that swarm on the earth are abhorrent; they must not be eaten.” Leviticus 11:41
- When you read about all of the situations mentioned in this chapter of Leviticus, think specifically about the Biblical times, especially the spreading of germs.
- This particular verse makes me think about flies. (Although I have never heard of anyone eating flies!) I really get disgusted if I see a fly land on food or a counter. I just feel like they are so contaminated with germs.🤮
- If a fly ever gets in the house, I have disinfectant spray handy to clean any areas where I see it land. However, in Biblical times, they only had water and maybe a few plants to clean with, and they weren’t always at hand.
- The regulations that the Lord gave them here in Leviticus was for their health, safety, and benefit, just like the commands He gives us.

“For I am the Lord your God, so you must consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44
- This verse is talking about staying “clean” in regards to not touching or eating something that would make them “unclean.” They were not to be contaminated.
- Later in I Peter, this verse is referenced to, but there it is talking about being holy in the way we live our lives in obedience to the Lord.

Leviticus 14:21-32
“But if he is poor and cannot afford these… in order to make atonement for him…”
Leviticus 14:21
“He is to then sacrifice one type of what he can afford… as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering…”
Leviticus 14:30-31
“This is the law for someone who has a skin disease and cannot afford the cost of his cleansing.”
Leviticus 14:32
- Cleansing and salvation is not determined by how much money we have.
- In the Old Testament, the Lord made a way for people to know Him through the law. At the cross, He made a way for us to know Him through Christ.
- None of us can afford the price of our salvation. If it were up to us, we would be out of luck. However, Christ paid the price for us. He was our Lamb sacrifice!

Leviticus 15:2, 31
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them…” Leviticus 15:2a
“You must keep the Israelites from their uncleanness, so that they do not die by defiling My tabernacle that is among them.” Leviticus 15:31
- It was important for Moses and Aaron to tell the people the truth. It was to protect the people. It was a matter of life and death.
- It is important for us to tell our families, friends, and acquaintances the Truth also. It is a matter of eternal life and death.
- Just like the Israelites, we are called to obey the Lord. To do this, you have to know what He says. We can know His truths by:
- Listening to sound preaching
- Spending time in prayer with Him
- Reading His Word
- Using other Biblical resources, as long as we have carefully tested them and know that they align with what the Bible says. There are many great resources available to us now, but nothing should take the place of our Bible reading and personal prayer time with the Lord.

Love your quote about how God puts things in place for our protection not to keep things away from us, Susan. That’s such a good reminder when we go through hard things. I’m adding that to my journal! Hugs, CoCo
It is true, but oh my goodness, when you are in the middle of it, it is sure hard to see it!
