Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus: Part 5

Saturday Morning Life Applications (Vol. 107)

Let’s continue looking at the book of Leviticus to find the life applications and lessons the Lord has for us.

An open Bible sits on the table, featuring the decorative text: "I have set you apart from the nations to be mine." The facing page delves into Leviticus, with surrounding notes titled "Life Applications and Lessons: Leviticus Part 5.

As we see these truths and lessons, let’s try to apply them to our lives each day.

An Overview of the Book of Leviticus

Leviticus can sometimes be a little difficult to read. If you are just joining us and are not familiar with the book of Leviticus, I encourage you to refer back to the first post on Leviticus as a reference. Read Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus – Part 1 to get a little background. With a little background, Leviticus will make a little more sense.

Life Applications and Lessons

  • We all have things from our past that have influenced us – either in a good or bad way.
  • Think about the influences and traditions in your life and make sure they are positive.
  • Don’t take on the qualities, habits, practices, or traditions where you have come from unless they align with the Lord’s statutes.
  • Don’t let others who do not share your beliefs and convictions lead your actions or influence you.
Floral border at the top left, pink flowers. Text reads: "BE AWARE OF YOUR INFLUENCES." Below, "My son, if sinners entice you, don’t be persuaded." Proverbs 1:10 and "...my son, don't travel that road with them," echoing wisdom like in Leviticus.

To fully understand what these verses are talking about, you really need to read verses 6-24. He was warning them not to do some pretty detestable things. It is a shame that some of these things would even have to be mentioned, but obviously these things were taking place in the nations around them.

  • They could see the negative consequences the other nations had to suffer because of these terrible acts. Why would they ever want to end up like them?
  • Many times we have the same thoughts. We see others suffer the consequences of their actions, but we tend to think either:
    • We would never do that. (Always be on guard for temptation.)
    • Those consequences would not happen to us.
  • These thought processes don’t even make sense.
A motivational quote from 1 Corinthians 10:12, paired elegantly with a reference to Leviticus, graces a soft pink and beige textured background. It highlights God's faithfulness and overcoming temptation. At the bottom, find a link: "www.homewithgraceandjoy.com".

This entire chapter gives instructions on how to be holy and what the Lord wants us to do and not do. This is where you will find the 10 Commandments, with some of them expanded upon. To summarize the entire chapter:

Text on a textured beige background: “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest? He said to him, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command...’ A wisdom echoing from Leviticus.”

Always remember the Golden Rule.

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31

In this passage, He gives them these instructions in regards to the way they give the Lord offerings. However, reading the last part of this verse, made me think:

  • God’s truths do not change! They are the same wherever we go.
  • His Word has not changed. When we read the Bible today, it is the same as in our parents’ time (and before).
  • Just because you move to a new area, are around different people, or are in a society with different beliefs and values, you should not change your Godly standards.

A text quote on a beige and brown geometric background reads: “Leviticus guides us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, teaching us to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age,” Titus 2:12. Visit www.homewithgraceandjoy.com for more insights.

  1. Thanks for the gentle reminder that no matter what the circumstances, He never changes and neither does His love or His truths. I’ve been thinking about and praying Hebrews 13:8 a lot this week too. Big hugs, CoCo
