An Overview of the Book of Leviticus
Leviticus can sometimes be a little difficult to read. If you are just joining us and are not familiar with the book of Leviticus, I encourage you to refer back to the first post on Leviticus as a reference. Read Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Leviticus – Part 1 to get a little background. With a little background, Leviticus will make a little more sense.
Life Applications and Lessons
“You are to live in shelters for seven days. All the native-born of Israel must live in shelters, so that your generations may know that I made the Israelites live in shelters when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 23:42-43
- This may not have made perfect sense to them at the time, but the Lord had a reason for it. This would tell their story to the generations to come. It was part of their testimony.
- Sometimes we are directed to do things that may not make sense to us at the time. Know that when the Lord directs us to do something, He has a reason.
“ “The land is not to be permanently sold because it is Mine, and you are only aliens and temporary residents on My land.”
Leviticus 25:23
- When we read about some of the regulations in the Old Testament (the time of Jubliee, kinsman redeemers, etc.), we have a really hard time grasping the concepts. This is not what we are taught in this day and age. However, this was very important to the Israelites at the time, in fact, it was God ordained.
- We need to have a mindset shift that we are only managers of the Lord’s belongings. This includes:
- Our homes
- Children
- Marriages and relationships
- Possessions
- “It is not ours to begin with; we are just the managers.” This mindset can be freeing!
- This gives us the responsibility to handle all of it the way He wants us to.
- We can give more freely instead of holding onto things, because they aren’t ours to hold onto or keep.
“I will place my residence among you, and I will not reject you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom.”
Leviticus 26:11-13
- These are some of the blessings and benefits of following the Lord:
- The Lord lives among us.
- He walks with us through life and in all of our circumstances.
- He removes our bondage!
- What a blessing it is to follow the Lord!

Susan, I appreciate how you’ve drawn practical life applications from Leviticus—a book often overlooked for its relevance today. Your insights into holiness and obedience’s importance remind us that God’s call to His people remains timeless. How you connect these ancient principles to our modern lives, particularly how we approach worship and our relationship with God, is so meaningful. Thank you for taking the time to unpack these lessons and bring clarity to a book that holds such rich truths! And thank you so much for linking up at InstaEncouragements this week! 🙂
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed going through Leviticus! You are right, there are some rich truths in this book of the Bible.
Seriously so thankful for this series, Susan. Leviticus can feel like such a tedius book at times but I feel like I understand it so much better now! Thank you for the gentle reminder we are simply managers of what He has given us. I needed that mindset shift this week. Big hugs, CoCo
