Three New Meal Ideas

If you noticed in the menu, I listed a few new meal ideas for March. They are all super easy and delicious!

Hot Dog Chili Pie

A hand holds a spoon over a red bowl filled with chili, topped with shredded cheese and chopped sausages. The delectable dish, perfect for your monthly menu, rests on a wooden table adorned with a lace runner, surrounded by greenery and brass candlesticks.

This recipe literally came about because we were trying to use up leftovers. We had hot dogs one night and had several leftover. Since there are only two of us, that happens regularly. A couple days later, we were looking for an easy weekend meal and decided on Frito Chili Pie. Since we had the leftover hot dogs, I cut them into small pieces and added them to the chili. It turned out to be pretty delicious!

Ravioli Casserole

I do not have a picture of this one, because it has been a while since we have had it. I used to make it for the youth group at church.

In a baking dish, layer frozen raviolis, shredded cheese, spaghetti sauce, and Parmesan cheese several times. Think of it as if you were making a lasagna. Once the dish is filled, bake at 350 degrees until it is bubbly. It should take around 30-45 minutes. It will be faster if the raviolis are thawed.

Chicken & Waffle Tacos

I have only tried chicken & waffles recently, and they were delicious! However, the chicken was on the bone, so it was a little harder to eat with the waffle.

A plate with waffles topped with fried chicken, dusted with powdered sugar, and accompanied by two strips of bacon graces the wooden table. This mouthwatering combination is a must-try from our new Monthly Menu.

There is a local waffle house that serves chicken strips on waffles, and the waffles fold up like a taco. What better way to celebrate National Waffle Day – Chicken & Waffle Tacos! You can add whatever toppings you like on these. For me, I am going back to the original ones I had:

  • Waffle
  • Chicken Strips instead of a whole piece of chicken
  • Drizzle warm syrup
  • Dust with powdered sugar

That may not sound like a good combination to you; it didn’t to me either. However, I took a chance and ordered it just like it came, and it was absolutely delicious!

Now for the taco part – instead of laying it flat on the plate, fold it like a taco shell and enjoy!

Menu and Meal Planning Tips

  • Print or take a photo of the meal plan and keep it visible.
  • It is a great idea to keep certain staples on hand (baking items, seasonings, etc.)
  • Buy in bulk when possible.
  • Look at the monthly meal plan and make a grocery list of all items you can get in advance. If possible, buy all of these items once instead of making multiple grocery trips. (Grocery Delivery is wonderful too! Walmart+ has been a lifesaver for me!)
  • It is a good idea to keep a master list of the main grocery items you use on a regular basis. Having a ready made grocery shopping list can save you time, and help you remember items you need to purchase.
  • Set aside time at the beginning of the month for meal prep, to prepare food (cut vegetables, divide bulk items and freeze when necessary, etc.)
A kitchen scene with a purple knife on a cutting board, an onion slicer, and three labeled bags containing diced and sliced onions for the monthly menu. A black marker is nearby on the red countertop.
This is such a time saver!
  • Look at your weekly meal plan over the weekend, and write out your weekly shopping lists so you can make one trip to the grocery store or farmers markets to get fresh produce and other items you will need.
  • Remember that this is just a guide with recipe ideas – use what you want and skip the rest.
