Life Applications and Lessons (Vol. 117)
Colossians is a small book, but it is packed with so much! Let’s take a look at the life lessons from the book of Colossians as we finish reading this book of the Bible.

If you haven’t had a chance to see Part 1 of Colossians, you can find it here.
Let’s dive right into this book and see what the Lord has for us.

Life Applications and Lessons from the Book of Colossians
Colossians 3:1-2
“So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.“
Colossians 3:1-2
- Wow! This is all about mindset! It is so easy to stay focused on earthly things, because… we live here on earth! However, the true blessings will be found when we focus on Heavenly things.
- It says to “seek” the things above, which takes effort. If we don’t put forth the effort, we will focus on what is easy and right in front of our faces. This may seem good at times, but it is definitely not what is best.

Colossians 3:13
“…bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.”
Colossians 3:13
- He took our place on the cross and died in our place so we could have salvation. Yet there are times in which we take His sacrifice for granted and choose our own way instead of His.
- When you think of all the ways we sin against the Lord, it can be overwhelming. However, His grace and mercy is endless, and He forgives us.
- Now think of anyone who may have hurt you. Is there anyone you have something against?
- Just as the Lord forgives us (sacrificially), we need to forgive others with:
- Love
- Grace
- Mercy

Here is another mindset shift – Can we think of it this way? Do unto others as you would have the Lord do unto you. Talk about something hard to carry out!!!
Quote from one of my ultimate favorite movies – You’ve Got Mail
“Well, let me ask you something. How can you forgive this guy for standing you up and not forgive me for this tiny little thing… of putting you out of business?”
Joe Fox in You’ve Got Mail
Colossians 4:5
“Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time.”
Colossians 4:5
- This chapter is Paul’s conclusion to the letter. He had just been speaking of sharing the Gospel. Now he was telling them to make the most of the opportunities and the time they had.
- We see this a lot at the end of people’s lives. They want to make sure to get everything said that needs to be said.
- Why wait? Let’s take every opportunity we have to share the Gospel and our love, so that in the end there are no regrets.

Colossians 4:6
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.”
Colossians 4:6
- Whether witnessing, giving advice, or just being around people, keep a gracious tone in your speech.
- If you are rude or defensive, people will not listen to you. They will normally tune you out and go in the opposite direction.
- “Seasoned with Salt” – Make sure your words taste good to others. Like salt, let your words preserve the other person instead of harming them.

Colossians 4:17
“And tell Archippus, ‘Pay attention to the ministry you have received in the Lord, so that you can accomplish it.’”
Colossians 4:17
- Pay attention to the mission the Lord has for you – don’t ignore it!
- What is your:
- Mission
- Calling
- Purpose
- Ministry
- Pay attention to it and be intentional so you can accomplish it.

Hahaha! Love that you quoted Joe Fox! Great devotional this week.
Joe Fox snuck in some wisdom!😂
Devotional days are my favorite days, Susan! I had a divine appointment with someone I had not seen in maybe 20 years yesterday and it was wild when he said, “You were always nice to me.” I could not for the life of me remember him or place his face so the fact he remembered me as nice was super sweet but it was also a good reminder to not only say kind things to others but to be kind as well because those are the things that make a lasting impression. It’s truly, such a small world! Big hugs and thanks for always giving us your best with these, CoCo
That is such a wonderful testimony! It is so true!! My husband had the opposite thing happen to him when I set him up with a Facebook page years ago. High School Boys!!! Anyway, he had the chance to talk to her and make it right! He felt so badly about the whole thing!
