9 Prayers We Can Pray for the Dads in Our Lives

Whether we realize the magnitude of it or not, fathers have a great responsibility (both physically and spiritually) to their families. Because of this heavy load, here are 9 prayers we can pray for the dads in our lives.

It doesn’t have to be Father’s Day prayers or a special day to pray for fathers. They need prayers every day.

You can also pray for other earthly father figures as well – biological, adoptive, stepfathers, grandfathers, sons, sons-in-law, and the other men in your life. You may even have a spiritual father (mentor) you could pray for as well.

Through prayer, we can strengthen them, uplift them, and see them draw closer to the Lord.

9 Prayers We Can Pray for the Dads in Our Lives

I love praying prayers based on God’s Word! There are so many scriptures we could add here; this is only a start.

#1 A Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance

Scripture:
James 1:5

A Bible verse from James 1:5, in brown text on a soft beige textured background, reads: "Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God - Who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly - and it will be given to him." Life Applications can be found at the website URL below.

Pray that the Lord would fill him with wisdom to lead his family with discernment and integrity. Ask that the Lord leads him in every decision he makes.

#2 A Prayer for Strength

Scriptures:
Isaiah 40:31
Joshua 1:9

A torn piece of paper with the Bible verse Joshua 1:9 and inspiring life applications and lessons printed on it, set against a beige background. Below the paper is the website address www.homewithgraceandjoy.com.

Pray that the Lord will continually strengthen him and lift him up by the Lord’s Own Hand. Ask that the Lord use the challenges he faces to make him a stronger person.

#3 A Prayer for Spiritual Growth

Scriptures:
Colossians 2:6-7
2 Peter 3:18

A white card clipped to fabric displays a Bible verse in brown script: "So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him..." Colossians 2:6-7. Grow spiritually while traveling at homewithgraceandjoy.com.

Pray that the Lord will continue to draw him near, grow his faith, and teach him His truths.

#4 A Prayer for Total Protection

Scriptures:
Psalm 91:1-2
Psalm 121:7

Text on a soft beige background reads: "The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty." Reflecting themes from Psalms to Leviticus, this piece invites serenity. Website: www.homewithgraceandjoy.com.

Pray that the Lord would have His hand of protection around him at all times, both physically and spiritually.

#5 A Prayer for His Role as a Father

Scriptures:
Proverbs 22:6
Joshua 24:15

A brick house with a black door decorated with a festive wreath greets visitors. A sign near the door reads "WE WILL SERVE THE LORD, JOSHUA 24:15." In front of a window, a red wagon holds yellow flowers, adding to fall ideas. A potted plant rests on the ground nearby.

Pray that the Lord would guide him as only our Heavenly Father can do in raising children. May the ones in his influence see the Lord’s characteristics modeled through him, as he (the spiritual leader) leads his family closer to the Lord.

#6 A Prayer for Encouragement

Scriptures:
Nehemiah 8:10
Philippians 4:11-13

A Bible verse from Philippians 4:11-13 is displayed on a cloudy sky background, sharing how to grow spiritually while traveling and find contentment in any situation through faith. The website "homewithgraceandjoy.com" is at the bottom.

Pray that the Lord would fill him with encouragement and inexpressible joy, even in the hard times and difficult seasons he will face.

#7 A Prayer for Leadership

Scripture:
Psalm 37:23

White text of Psalm 37:23 is centered over a dark, winding staircase with black railings. The quote inspires you to grow spiritually while traveling: “A person's steps are established by the Lord, and he takes pleasure in his way.” Website link below.

Pray that the Lord would go with him and lead him as he leads anyone in his influence: family, church, workplace, etc. Ask that He makes him a loving father and gives him a servant’s heart in this area.

#8 A Prayer for Health

Scripture:
Malachi 4:2

A torn notepaper with a Bible verse from Malachi 4:2 about righteousness and healing rests over a beach scene with sea, pebbles, and cliffs—reminding you to grow spiritually while traveling. The website "homewithgraceandjoy.com" is at the bottom.

Pray that the Lord guards his health and covers him with protection in all areas of life.

#9 A Prayer for God’s Favor

Scripture:
Psalm 5:12

An image with the text "The Lord's Favor" at the top. Below it is a verse: “For You, Lord, bless the righteous one; You surround him with favor like a shield. Psalm 5:12". The corners are decorated with sprigs of greenery. Life Applications details can be found at the website URL at the bottom.

A Call to Action

One of the greatest gifts we can give fathers or men in general is to commit to pray for them on a daily basis. That may be:

  • a dad or stepdad
  • grandfather
  • husband
  • son
  • son-in-law
  • another father figure
  • a new father or single dad in the neighborhood or church

Just because they are not our dads doesn’t mean they don’t need prayer.

Here are some things we can do:

  • Share other prayers and scriptures with each other as we pray over our fathers.
  • Download or screenshot the following picture to use as a prayer guide.
A prayer card titled “Covering the Fathers in Our Lives” lists prayers for wisdom, protection, strength, spiritual growth, and more—perfect for fathers seeking to grow spiritually while traveling. Proverbs 20:7 is featured at the top.
  • Share this post with others who will be praying for the fathers and father figures in their lives.

At the end of the day, I hope these 9 prayers we can pray for the fathers in our lives are an encouragement to you as much as they will be to them. Let’s lighten the heavy load these Godly men bear and encourage them through prayer.
