Easy Monthly Menu and Ideas for September

As summer is coming to a close (although it is still pretty hot here in Texas), it is time to get back into a routine. This easy monthly menu and ideas post for September is meant to make things easier as we get back into the swing of things.

What is a Monthly Meal Plan

This monthly meal plan is filled with ideas for quick and easy weeknight meals. Since the planning can be the most challenging part, use this as a guide for ideas.

You can do your monthly meal plans many different ways. I like to:

  • Plan for weeknight meals only.
  • Use recipes weekly that can double dip or morph into another meal that week.
  • Throw in some crock pot meals.
  • Plan a lot of 30 minute meals.
  • Cook enough that we have leftovers for the weekend.

Get Weekly Reminders

I send weekly menu reminders each Monday morning in the Apron Strings & Blessings newsletter. I would love for you to join me each week for faith, family, and food ideas.

Join below and also receive my meal planning charts to help you get everything planned a little easier. I am working on several other items to help with meal planning. Here are a variety of meal planning charts to help get your meals planned.

New Meal Idea

This may not be a new idea for you, but it was for us. Jay had an idea to combine corny dogs with chili cheese dogs, and I have to say, they were great! (They are probably not the best thing for a diet, but on occasion they are okay.)

Here are what we are calling – Chili Cheese Corny Dogs!

The last picture has mustard drizzled over it. This was a last minute addition for me. You could also add:

  • Ketchup
  • Diced Onions
  • Chopped Jalapenos

Have you heard of this? Thoughts?

September Eat at Home Challenge

September is a time to get back into a routine. However, many times these nightly routines are filled with sports, homework, church, and other nightly activities.

We are less busy than when we were raising our kids, but we still want to be involved and watch our grandkids as they participate in things. Fun times!

So many times I find it is just easier to grab something on the go, but not this month! I am starting an “Eat at Home Challenge” for the month of September. There will still be allowances for eating out, but they will be much less.

A cozy dinner table set with plates, candles, and food, evokes the warmth of gathered apron strings. A card in the center reads, "How many meals will you commit to?" Website: homewithgraceandjoy.com.

I am committing to four weeknight meals at home each week in September. I have my menu planned above, and I am determined to look at it regularly and stick to it.

Will you join me in this challenge? If so, how many meals will you commit to eating at home each week?

Menu and Meal Planning Tips

There are so many ways to make meal planning and prepping go faster and smoother. I have put together some tips and ideas to help.

  • Print the menu (at least for the week) and keep it visible.
  • Each night, check to see if anything needs to be thawed. This is one of my biggest issues!
  • Do a shopping trip or order for everything you can get in advance at the beginning of the month. Don’t forget the staples.
  • Each week shop for the items you will need fresh for that week’s meals.

I hope some of these meal ideas work for you and your family. They are easy to tweak to meet any special needs.

If you have other quick and easy meals, I would love to hear from you. Please share.

  1. Yeah for easy meal ideas, Susan! I love that you’re giving yourself a monthly challenge to eat more at home too. It’s so easy to just pick something up after long and busy days. We definitely need to get on board with this as well. Hugs, CoCo

    1. I did better than I thought I would with eating at home. I almost caved a few times though.
