Scripture shows us what real love looks like: patient, kind, sacrificial, and full of grace. These 10 Bible verses about love are perfect for displaying as printable art.

Bible Verses About Love

Since we know that God is love, it only makes sense that God’s Word would be filled with love. The Bible is literally filled with Scriptures about what love is, how to love, and examples of love. After all, His Word is a love letter to us.

Before we even get started, I have to share the greatest verse in the Bible about love! There is no better example of the love of God than this:

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (CSB)

That sacrificial love is our goal and what we strive for each day. There are many more Bible verses that talk about great love. Here are 10 common ones that you will probably recognize. These scriptures give us instruction and teach us how we should love one another.

10 Scriptures About Love (With Short Reflections)

#1 – 1 Corinthians 13:4–5

This is love in action. It is not just feelings but choices. God’s love teaches us to respond with patience, grace, and forgiveness, even when it’s hard.

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs.”
I Corinthians 13:4-5 (CSB)

#2 – John 15:12

Jesus sets the standard. His love is sacrificial, gentle, and faithful. We are called to show that same love to others every day.

“This is My command: ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’” John 15:12 (CSB)

#3 – 1 John 4:19

Love doesn’t start with us, it starts with God. Our ability to love comes from the sacrificial love He has already shown us.

“We love because He first loved us.” I John 4:19 (CSB)

#4 –  Colossians 3:14

Love is the thread that holds everything together:

• Our relationships
• Our homes
• All areas of our lives

#5 – Romans 12:10

Godly love looks like honoring others, serving them, and placing value on their needs. It is a beautiful picture for marriage, family, and friendship.

I love that it says to “take the lead in honoring one another!” Can you imagine if everyone took the lead in this area?

#6 – Proverbs 17:17

True love isn’t just for the good times. It is not seasonal. Love shows up in joy and in hardships. It stays steady and faithful through it all.

This verse has a special place in my heart, because it was one of my grandmother’s (Grace) favorite verses. She quoted this one many times.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a difficult time.” Proverbs 17:17 (CSB)

#7 – Ephesians 4:2

Love grows in humility! When we show love through gentleness and patience (even when it is hard), those moments give us the opportunity to reflect the love of Christ.

“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.”

#8 – Song of Songs 8:7

True love is strong because it is rooted in the Lord. When we have this kind of love, we can handle the trials and storms of life.

“A huge torrent cannot extinguish love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If a man were to give all his wealth for love, it would be utterly scorned.” Song of Songs 8:7 (CSB)

#9 – I Peter 4:8

Love brings healing! True love chooses grace and forgiveness because we know He poured His grace and mercy upon us.

“Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.”

#10 – I Corinthians 16:14

As hard as this is, this can turn everything we do into a ministry and even a testimony. Every word, action, and reaction can be an opportunity to show God’s love to the world around us.

How to Print & Frame Your Scripture Art (For Valentine’s Decor)

These free printables (Bible verses) are easy to print from your computer or phone (if they are connected to a printer of course). Use these directions to print:

• Use cardstock if possible. Print on white or a soft cream colored cardstock for a sturdier picture.
• Choose the picture you want to print.
  • Right click the picture.
  • Save image as – Name the picture.
  • Open the downloaded picture on your computer and print. (If your computer will not allow you to print from the download, look for an icon that looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it. Click that icon and email it to yourself.
  • Open the picture, and you should see a printer icon. Click it, check your printer settings, and print.
  • Trim the edges to fit the frame.

• Frame the picture with something that matches the style and color of the picture:
  • Natural wood frames
  • Gold frames
  • White farmhouse frames
  • Antique or vintage frames
• Place them around your home:
  • On a kitchen counter
