Lessons from the Christmas Wise Men

The story of the wise men has always fascinated me. They were earthly kings, and yet they set out to find and worship THE King. No wonder we call them Wise Men. Let’s look at some of the lessons we can learn from the Christmas wise men. We too need this kind of wisdom.

.

Here are a Few Things to Learn from the Wise Men:

.

It is estimated that the wise men visited Jesus and his family about two years after His birth.

Lesson – We need to seek and worship Him throughout the year, not just when we celebrate His birth.

.

They had to travel a long distance, over a pretty long period of time to find Him. They even had to deceive Herod in the process. They put forth time and effort to find the Lord Jesus.

Lesson – We have the privilege of being able to attend the Church of our choice and have as many Bibles as we want. Many people around the world do not have these privileges. Let’s take advantage of the blessings and put forth some time and effort to get to know the Lord in a very personal way.

.

The wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Although they were kings themselves, they didn’t think they were too good to worship Him or give Him gifts. They gave to Him as a true act of worship, not to get something in return.

Lesson – Let us truly give to Him as an act of worship – with a humble heart and not wanting anything in return.

.

If we will strive to apply these lessons from the Christmas Wise Men to our lives, I believe we will draw closer to the Lord. When we draw closer to Him, we too will be wise. As the saying goes, “Wise Men Still Seek Him!”

.

Scripture

.

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem saying, ‘Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.'” Matthew 2:1-2

Nativity Sets

Last week I shared one of my Nativity sets. Here is another one that we got on vacation one year. I leave this simple reminder on display all year.

.

.

Here are a few more sets that I found that I really like. If you don’t have a Nativity set, I encourage you to find one. There are so many varieties in stores and on Amazon. These are just a few options.

.

This is a music box Nativity set.

Here is a Link to This Nativity Scene.

.

I like the set below because it is hand carved and made out of Olive wood.

.

I love these Snow Globe Nativity sets. This one is through Amazon, but if there is a Hobby Lobby near you, they have these. They should at least be 70% off at this point. Cracker Barrel is another option, but I have never found them on sale there.

.

Last year my mother-in-law got all of the girls a “Baby Jesus” to keep in their rooms. It is a very simple reminder. I can’t find the exact one that she bought last year, but I like this one. There are many options.

Song

.

I don’t know if you have ever really paid attention to the lyrics of this song or not, but they are very meaningful! Listen to “We Three Kings” here with the lyrics displayed.

.

  • I can’t believe I forgot to post this song! Please listen to this one, and keep it in mind as we finish the Christmas season. This is an old song. – “All Year Long” by Larnelle Harris

.

If you missed the 1st devotionals in this series, you can see them here:

1 – Lessons from the Christmas Inn Keeper.

2 – Lessons from the Christmas Star

3 – Lessons from the Christmas Shepherds

4 – Lessons from the Christmas Manger

I want to wish you all a very Merry CHRISTmas! Stay safe, enjoy friends and family, and keep Him in your heart during all of the festivities.

.

Have a Grace & Joy-filled day!

Susan

Hello!

Hello!

Welcome! I believe homes and families should be filled with grace and joy! As I think about my life, I can see how my grandmother and my mom poured these beliefs into our home. How fitting that my grandmother's name was Grace and my mother's name is Joy. I hope to share the impact "Grace and Joy" have made on my life and in my home!

I wrote this back in 2006, but the household tips, recipes, and organizational strategies are still relevant as they are filtered through the lens of Scripture.
