Lessons from the Christmas Wise Men (5th of a 5 Part Series)

The story of the wise men has always fascinated me. Let’s look at some of the lessons from the Christmas wise men. We too need this kind of wisdom. They were earthly kings, and yet they set out to find and worship THE King. No wonder we call them Wise Men.

They were earthly kings, and yet they set out to find and worship THE King. No wonder we call them Wise Men.

Lessons from the Christmas Wise Men

It is estimated that the wise men visited Jesus and his family about two years after His birth.

Lesson #1 – We need to seek and worship Him throughout the year, not just when we celebrate His birth.

They had to travel a long distance, over a pretty long period of time to find Him. They even had to deceive Herod in the process. However, they put forth time and effort to find the Lord Jesus.

Lesson #2 – We have the privilege of being able to attend the Church of our choice and have as many Bibles as we want. Many people around the world do not have these privileges. Let’s take advantage of the blessings and put forth some time and effort to get to know the Lord in a very personal way.

A nativity scene with the Magi, reminiscent of "We Three Kings of Orient Are," standing around a baby in a manger. Each figure holds a gift. A Christmas tree adorned with lights is softly blurred in the background.

The wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Although they were kings themselves, they didn’t think they were too good to worship Him or give Him gifts. They gave to Him as a true act of worship, not to get something in return.

Lesson #3 – Let us truly give to Him as an act of worship – with a humble heart and not wanting anything in return.

If we will strive to apply these lessons from the Christmas Wise Men to our lives, I believe we will draw closer to the Lord. When we draw closer to Him, we too will be wise. As the saying on the Christmas cards goes, “Wise Men Still Seek Him!”

Scripture

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem saying, ‘Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.'” Matthew 2:1-2

Last week I shared one of my Nativity sets. Here is another one that we got on vacation one year. I leave this simple reminder on display all year.

Here is a set that I found that I really like. If you don’t have a Nativity set, I encourage you to find one. There are so many varieties in stores and on Amazon. This is just an option.

Nativity scene with a wooden stable, featuring figures of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus in a manger alongside the three wise men. An angel with a "Gloria" banner watches over shepherds, donkey, cow, and sheep—each embodying lessons from the Christmas manger.

A few years ago my mother-in-law got all of the girls a “Baby Jesus” to keep in their rooms. It is a very simple reminder. There are many options, but this is the one she got them.

A small baby figurine wrapped in a white blanket rests on a straw bed beside a purple drawstring bag with gold tassels, inscribed with "True Gift of Christmas," evoking timeless lessons from the Christmas Wise Men.
