Living a Legacy

Saturday Morning Devotional – Don’t Let Age Stop You

Obadiah the Clown with Granny Grace

Don’t Let Age Stop You

The Seasoned

The picture is obviously old and faded, but the message is still there. My grandmother, Granny Grace did not let a little thing like age stop her from ministering. She is pictured here with Obadiah the clown who ministered to many children in the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala!

Granny was in her 80’s when Obadiah came about, and he needed a clown costume. She went right to work because she saw the need and wanted to help. The Lord had given her a talent for sewing, and she used that talent anytime it was needed. Because of her willingness to work, Obadiah was able to share the Gospel with many children and parents.

You can read in the Bible about how the Lord blessed Joshua and Caleb, and they fought many battles to take over the Promised Land. They were in their 80s, but they were not going to let age stop them from fulfilling their purpose. Never think you are too old to be used by the Lord.

The Young

On the other hand, David fought Goliath when he was just a boy. The people around him sneered and made snarky remarks because of his size and age. David knew that the Lord was with him, so he didn’t let their remarks or the size of Goliath bother him.

There are many other examples of people being used by the Lord to fulfill His purposes, whether young, middle aged, or older. Regardless of your age, remember that the Lord has a purpose, a plan, and a mission for you. Don’t let age stop you from fulfilling it!

Scriptures

“Joshua was now old, advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, ‘You have become old, advanced in years, but a great deal of the land remains to be possessed.'” Joshua 13:1

.

“… Here I (Caleb) am today, 85 years old. I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. My strength for battle and for daily tasks is now as it was then.” Joshua 14:10-11

.

” Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He Who will sustain you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4

.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” I Timothy 4:12

.

“Saul replied, ‘You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.'”
I Samuel 17:33

Quote of the Week

Don’t Quit

Quick Update

I was able to get some pictures of the Chicken Pot Pie. Jay actually made it for a fellowship meal this week. It was delicious! Here is a link to the post with the recipe.

I hope you enjoyed the devotional. Is there a person who has inspired you with their determination to minister, regardless of age? Please share in the comments.

Have a Grace & Joy-filled day!

Hello!

Hello!

Welcome! I believe homes and families should be filled with grace and joy! As I think about my life, I can see how my grandmother and my mom poured these beliefs into our home. How fitting that my grandmother's name was Grace and my mother's name is Joy. I hope to share the impact "Grace and Joy" have made on my life and in my home!

I wrote this back in 2006, but the household tips, recipes, and organizational strategies are still relevant as they are filtered through the lens of Scripture.
