An Easy Sausage Strata Recipe

One of the principals brought this Sausage Strata to school last week, and I had to have the recipe! This dish is one of the tastiest breakfast casseroles I have ever eaten. It is creamy, savory, and delicious! Once you try it, you will be wanting more.

Sausage Strata

We recently celebrated National School Counselor’s Week, and our co-workers went all out! They spoiled us with donuts, cookies, a nacho bar, catered fajitas, gift cards to be pampered by our Cosmetology Department, a creamy dessert (which I will share later), and this delicious Sausage Strata.

Counselors Week Celebrations

The morning that we had the Sausage Strata, I immediately asked Mr. Mason if I could share this great recipe. Of course he said it was fine, so here it is – enjoy!

Ingredients

Notice that instead of using stale bread or even fresh bread, they use croutons. This gave the dish such a great flavor. I did not even have to use salt or pepper for seasoning. This is unheard of for me!

Instructions

  1. Cook sausage in a large skillet.
  2. In a large baking dish, layer as follows: Croutons – Shredded Cheese – Sausage.
  3. Mix all of the other ingredients in a large bowl.
  4. Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the rest of the ingredients in the baking dish.
  5. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 15 – 30 minutes, according to your oven. The dish should be firm and golden brown.

This Sausage Strata is best warm and fresh out of the oven. However, I ate plenty of it at room temperature as well. We also had the leftovers the next morning, and they were just as delicious as the first day.

  1. Such a sweet way to honor you guys, Susan! All the guys in my family LOVE sausage and bacon so I can’t wait to create this recipe for them. We eat a lot “veggie” bacon so they will be tickled pink to finally have the “real deal.” Big hugs and congratulations on your special week, CoCo
